This keeps me on track with my goal of selling one per week in 2025. Profit from selling the controllers was $36.94. I have 3 refurbished controllers that need to be listed. With demand still strong, I only list one or two at a time so I can limit the number of trips to the post office each week. It continues to be difficult to find controllers listed for repair that are not overpriced. I spend more time looking for controllers to bid on than I do repairing and listing controllers for sale.

I was able to repair the stick drift on two model 1914 controllers. Removing the potentiometers continues to be a challenge. The vias are smaller than on the 1708 controllers which makes the solder difficult to remove. It sometimes takes several days as I remove as much solder as I can and then come back the next day and try again. Eventually, enough solder is removed, and I can use a heat gun to get the part to release. The board needs to be removed from the controller when using a heat gun or you risk melting the plastic framework.

I am getting better at repairing 1914 controllers. I’ve found a few in mint condition, except for drift on the left stick. Most of the time only the vertical potentiometer needs to be replaced. But it is easy to get frustrated trying to get the old solder to come out. Tricks like adding low temp solder sometimes helps. I also apply flux and use a clean solder removal tool on each attempt. It is no secret that Xbox controllers are designed to fail. I’ve seen a few listings for controllers that have been fitted with TMR thumb sticks. TMR (Tunnel Magneto- resistance) thumb sticks are designed to eliminate stick drift. Unlike traditional potentiometers, TMR sticks use magnetic fields to detect movement, eliminating friction and wear. They are more expensive than traditional thumb sticks. Calibration on older controllers is difficult and installing them on newer 1914 models require good tools and repair skills.

I sold 4 Xbox One controllers this month.
