The 200 Mbps internet plan that I use increased from $62 per month to $71 per month. The plan I had was called Performance Select Internet and the original speed was 100 Mbps. Then in October 2022 they increased the speed to 200 Mbps. You can’t complain when they double your internet speed and don’t charge you for it. Unfortunately, with more speed comes increased data usage. I was coming close to their 1200 GB data cap almost every month after the speed increase. I didn’t want to pay the extra $10 to get unlimited data, so I would sometimes have to restrict my internet usage on the last few days of the month. When the price increased to $71 per month, I tried to sign up for the Affordable Connectivity Program. I don’t know if I was too close to the deadline for new applications, but I never heard back from them as to the status of my application.

I finally decided to go on the Xfinity website to see if I could change to a lower priced plan. I discovered that they don’t even offer the 200 Mbps Performance Select plan anymore. Their plans start at 150 Mbps and go up to 1000 Mbps. They also have a low-price option called Internet Essentials 50/10 Mbps internet service for just $9.95 a month and Internet Essentials Plus: 100/20 Mbps internet service for just $29.95 a month. You have to meet the same ACP eligibility requirements to qualify, and it isn’t available in all areas. The only option I had was the 150/20 Mbps Connect plan. The estimated cost of this plan was $59 per month.

So, I would be saving $12 per month or $108 this year. I wasn’t worried about the 50 Mbps speed drop because I was already restricting data to 90000 Kbps (88 Mbps) on my router. I was able to get the change made on their website without too much trouble. A confirmation email showed that the Performance Select plan was cancelled and the new 150 Mbps plan replaced it. The change happened right after I clicked the confirm button on the order. They sent a command to my modem and the Internet connection dropped for a few seconds. When it came back, the Xfinity website was a bit slow, but otherwise there was no noticeable difference. My only regret was that I should have made the change a few months earlier!

In January 2024, Xfinity (Comcast) raised their prices again.
