The trick is to go shopping at several different thrift stores and to go on days when they are having a 25% or 50% off sale. If you go to a thrift store in a more affluent neighborhood, you can find better stuff. We usually go once a month and I only buy one or two items per visit. This makes the hunt for the best deal more fun.
