Another Broken Appliance

It seems like kitchen appliances are always breaking down. The latest one to stop working at my home is our 4 year old Maytag Microwave. Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006. They also own KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and Amana. The door switch has been acting up for a while. It thinks the door is still open when it is not. Previously, I was able to close the door several times and it would start working again, but yesterday it finally stopped working for good.

I entered the model number and “door switch” into Google and found several YouTube videos on how to fix the problem. It looks like a common issue and is a fairly easy fix. Step one is to figure out which part needs to be replaced. The microwave door has 3 switches. I will need to use an ohm meter to determine which switch failed. Then, get the part number from the switch and search for the best price online. Prices and shipping costs vary greatly, so it pays to look for the best deal. Parts for older appliances can be a challenge, but since the microwave is fairly new, there should be no problem finding parts.
